latest word on INNER VISIONS :
LIVE FROM COLONY CAFE, WOODSTOCK, NY
SIS D catches up with the band!
7/12/08 - COLONY CAFE - WOODSTOCK, NY
The Woodstock reggae community lives on! The reggaewoodstock.com
team hosted a CD Release Party for FINALLY CAPTURED LIVE
recorded just down the road in Bearsville a mere 10 months
ago! Come to think of it, that was the last time I got to
see my fave band live (I just missed them when I visited
St. John earlier this year). So, you can imagine this night
was a special reunion for me! This performance was electric -
my favorite kind, all originals! The band started off with
many of their time-honored tunes. The Love One Another Medley
captured the audience! Everyone on the dance floor! Then
came Fire And Ice, Good Loving, MLK, Spiritual Dancer and
many more. There were many inspirational additions and
exciting nuances to these well-known songs. The acoustics
of this landmark hall were fantastic, though the boys moved
only as much as the tiny stage would allow. However, we
could prance about downstairs or roam the balcony and still
capture every moment.
The second set was on FIRE as INNER VISIONS got in their groove!
The band was all smiles as they really enjoyed this gig! Osisi
started the fyah with Burn Down Babylon and got it raging
with Push. Grasshopper beckoned us to the Frontline
to SPEAK UP! In Street Corner Musicians he taught us the
many influences in the band's career. The crowd was
introduced to the conscious lyrics of the new ballad
Mama Africa (How Long?). I love hearing a new song
live first. I'm still hearing the chorus in my mind! So Nice
featured exceptional harmonies between the elder Pickerings.
The Rebel Medley, first heard on this new CD, created the
ultimate bonfire! Energy just erupted from the stage and
there was noone in their seats. After Blasphemers closed
the show, we were treated to an encore that included another
new tour-de-force original titled Hands Up!
When I caught up with the boys after the show, I discovered
that they had traveled non-stop from Atlanta GA the night
before. What a testament to the hardest working reggae
band in the Virgin Islands! It surely "ain't easy on the
road" in these times. It was great to have them back! Can't
say when they'll be back.....you know I'll be there.
Bless up!
Sis D

Together now for 30 years, Reggae journeymen Inner Visions
have been the Virgin Island's best kept secret for too long.
Situated on the tiny Island of St. John, they've fought hard to
overcome the more dominant calypso/soca music scene. Today,
however, their music transcends all barriers. With the release
of their album, "Frontline" the RAS-spect
they've struggled for - for so long - has finally come to bear!
